About US

Our chorus was organized in 1949.  The chorus is the Palm Beach County Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, an international organization with approximately 800 chapters, 2000 registered quartets, and a membership of over 30,000 male singers in the United States .

Barbershop harmony is a unique form of four-part, a capella harmony: Lead, Tenor, Baritone and Bass.  The singers in the Coastmen are all amateurs who have a variety of backgrounds and musical skills.  Ability to read music is an asset, but not a requirement.  The Chapter provides sheet music and learning tapes.

The Coastmen Chorus competes on a semi-annual basis in statewide competitions.  These fun, friendly contests have competitors attending from all corners of the state. Over the years, the Coastmen Chorus has represented the Sunshine District in six international competitions.

Annual show extravaganzas have been the rule ever since the chapter's inception.  These yearly performances showcase the Coastmen's current repertoire and feature nationally famous quartets and other renowned vocal groups.  In addition, the chorus provides entertainment for civic and town organizations, local churches, and retirement facilities.

A portion of the proceeds from the annual show and other events is contributed to local charities.  The chorus is also involved in promoting choral singing by assisting public school choral directors with quartet performances.

The Palm Beach Coastmen is currently entering a new vigorous growth phase and is searching for new members to continue our tradition to "Keep the Whole World Singing."

Music is truly the universal language, and the chorus is striving to provide the next generations with the blissful harmonies that past generations have truly enjoyed and taken to heart.

We rehearse every Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Boynton Leisureville Recreation Center.
